Influenza A causing acute viral non-mumps parotitis

We present a case of acute unilateral facial swelling diagnosed as viral non-mumps parotitis secondary to influenza A infection. While mumps remains the most common cause of parotitis globally, its incidence has significantly declined in the developed countries due to effective vaccination programs. Concurrently, non-mumps viral causes, particularly influenza, have emerged as significant contributors. Timely recognition of influenza associated parotitis is essential to avoid unnecessary investigations, reduce inappropriate antibiotic use, and allow early effective antiviral therapy in patients with severe illness.
