Ripple Reduction and Efficiency Improvement of Always-Dual-Path Hybrid DC-DC Converter Based on Phase Shift Operation

This study proposes a novel phase-shift operation for an always-dual-path hybrid (ADPH) DC-DC converter with soft charging, utilizing a sub-inductor to improve performance. The proposed operation enhances efficiency by achieving zero voltage switching (ZVS) and reducing body diode losses, while significantly lowering output voltage ripple by optimizing the sub-inductor current waveform. To maintain high efficiency and low ripple across a wide load range, a dynamic phase-shift adjustment method is introduced, linearly adjusting the phase shift delay with the load current. Experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms conventional operation in both efficiency and ripple reduction. This method holds promise for applications such as data centers, robotics, and other systems requiring high power density, efficiency, and stable operation.
