A Versatile PHIL Based Motor Emulator Testbench Using a High-Performance Power Amplifier Testbench

The advancement in Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) based AC motor emulation plays a vital role in the development, testing, and validation of motor drive systems across various industries. This paper presents a versatile PHIL-based motor emulator test bench capable of replicating a wide range of AC motors, including permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), induction machines (IMs), and brushless DC machines (BLDCs). The proposed test bench provides flexibility in motor drive testing. Comprehensive descriptions of the system configuration and control methodologies, which allow the testing of different types of motors, are provided. Experimental implementation and results are presented to validate the operation of the motor emulator test bench under various operating conditions, demonstrating its accuracy and utility.
