Isolated single-phase onboard chargers for BEV/PHEV using active power decoupling technology

This paper presents an isolated single-phase onboard charger used for BEV/PHEV using active power decoupling (APD) technology. The proposed circuit consists of an isolated SEPIC circuit and a totem pole PFC circuit and shares some power semiconductor devices to achieve smaller sizes, higher efficiency, and lower cost. Furthermore, by implementing APD control, the battery charging voltage ripple caused by twice frequency grid voltage is reduced. Therefore, the proposed circuit with APD control extends battery life. In this paper, the principle of APD control is explained, and the circuit operation for 1 kW output is verified through simulation and experiments.
