FEA Based High-Frequency Synthesis for The Design and Optimization of GaN-Based Dual Three Phase Motor Drive System
Multiphase electric machines, particularly permanent magnet synchronous motors, are increasingly used across various industries for their high torque, power density, and low torque ripple. This paper presents the modeling of a high-frequency impedance loop and the optimization of loop inductance using finite element analysis. The derived model shows the impact of parasitic loop inductances on voltage overshoot and ringing across the switch. Besides, the importance of minimizing the parasitic loop inductance for Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor inverter are evaluated from the switching characteristics. The conventional strategies are employed to minimize the loop inductances and estimated inductances are incorporated in the high-frequency modeling. These findings are validated through simulation and experimental results which offer valuable insights into the optimization of switching behaviors in advanced motor drive systems.
