Rad-Hard PSFB Controller for High-Voltage Space Applications
The primary challenge in controlling a phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter for space applications is the absence of commercially available radiation-hardened (rad-hard) control ICs specifically designed for PSFB. To address this, this work implements a control scheme using discrete rad-hard components, including a PWM generator, a discrete dead-time circuit, and high-speed CMOS chips for phase-shifting logic. The design and implementation of a discrete PSFB controller are detailed, and its performance is validated on a 300W PSFB converter delivering a high-voltage output of 600V. Simulation and analysis demonstrate stable operation with minimal ripple, showcasing the feasibility and reliability of this approach for high-voltage space systems.
