Analysis and Design of a Constant Current LCC Class-E Inverter

This paper presents a Class-E inverter that provides constant output current and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) over wide load range by integrating the input switch unit with the output network. Both the duty cycle and switching frequency remain constant even with load variations. Utilizing frequency-domain analysis, the new inverter topology can simplify the design procedure of the constant current realization and the load-independent ZVS. A prototype operating at 6.78 MHz, with a 10-V input and 0.8 A output, was developed to validate the design. Both LTspice simulations and experimental results demonstrated ZVS and a constant AC output current across load resistances of 0.5, 40 and 80 Ω, achieving a load range 4 times greater than existing technologies.
