Enhanced Incremental Capacity Analysis for Evaluating Battery Degradation Mechanisms of Optimized Fast Charging Methods

This paper presents a detailed analysis of the degradation modes associated with battery fast charging profiles. The analysis employs incremental capacity analysis (ICA) with advanced filtering techniques. The values for the loss of lithium inventory (LLI) and the loss of active material (LAM) were calculated based on the peaks extracted from the IC curve. Based on the ICA-based degradation mode analysis, the pulsed charging profile resulted in 0.004% less LLI and 0.01% less LAM compared to the constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) charging profile. As a result, the degradation mode analysis demonstrated the performance of the pulse charging profile over CC-CV charging among fast charging profiles.
