A Current Sensorless Output Voltage Tracking Controller-Observer for a Boost Inverter Using Feedback Linearization

This paper presents a new feedback linearization-based controller-observer for output voltage tracking of a Boost inverter. The nonlinear inductor current estimator proposed has a much lower computational cost than an Extended Kalman Filter, for instance, and it is shown to possess a kind of separation principle with global convergence properties. Experimental results were achieved by emulating a 250 W Boost inverter on a HIL (Hardware-In-the-Loop) platform and implementing the controller-observer on a microcontroller to corroborate the proposed control strategy. The transient performance of the inverter was significantly improved according to previous works of the authors, along with a steady-state output voltage THD reduction from 11.57% to 0.44% at rated power. These results show the viability of the proposed approach for various applications and its potential for further performance and efficiency enhancement.
