Sling Forward Converter for Offline Operation: Achieving High Efficiency and Wide Voltage Range Performance
The Sling Forward Converter (SFC) is designed for offline DC-DC conversion across a wide voltage range, optimizing both input and output. The SFC reduces transformer size and switching losses by leveraging the transformer’s magnetizing current for resetting and establishing Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) conditions for the main power switch. This converter ensures the output inductor current remains independent of voltage variations, maintaining high, flat efficiency. MATLAB design and experimental results from a 200W prototype validate the SFC’s stable performance, demonstrating consistent output and efficient ZVS operation across input voltages from 200V to 400V. The SFC offers a promising solution for applications demanding robust, wide-range voltage handling.
