Optimized Maximum Torque and Minimum Loss Fault-Tolerant Control Schemes for Dual Three-Phase PMSM

This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control (FTC) scheme for dual three-phase (DTP) permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), which is based on an optimization of loss function, utilizing a weighted sum approach to achieve both maximum torque (MT) and minimum loss (ML) control during open-switch faults (OSF) in DTP inverters. The MT control achieves a torque of 0.87 p.u., whereas the ML control further reduces losses by 20 % compared to conventional ML, simultaneously maintaining a torque of 0.76 p.u. during fault conditions. To simplify the hardware implementation, a phase shift based approach is proposed, which reduces the complexity in handling faults. Instead of requiring 12 different sets of equations to address all possible fault scenarios, this method requires only two. Experimental results have validated the effectiveness of the proposed methods and comparative analysis are provided.
