Balanced Technique Using Integrated Winding Coupled Inductor for High-Power Density Two-Phase Interleaved Boost Converter

This paper proposes a two-phase boost converter using an integrated winding coupled inductor (IWCI) that achieves high-power density and common-mode (CM) noise reduction. As an attractive feature of the proposed circuit using IWCI, two output diodes are eliminated compared to the conventional circuit using loosely coupled inductor (LCI) and symmetry-balanced technique. The CM noise of the proposed converter is effectively reduced by fulfilling the balancing conditions derived from the CM equivalent circuit. Additionally, components are inherent to the circuit, and it can be done without compromising other design parameters or requirements. To confirm the validity of the derived balancing conditions, experimental evaluations are carried out by using a 300W prototype of the proposed circuit using Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices. The experimental results demonstrated a significant common mode noise reduction effect, achieving up to 50 dBµV across a frequency range of 1 MHz to 30 MHz compared to conventional circuits.
