Optimal DC-DC Converter Topology and Control Algorithm for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle with Series-Connected Supercapacitor

This paper proposes a novel and optimized dc-dc converter employing a series-connected configuration of power sources and its control algorithm for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) with a supercapacitor (SC). Applying the series-connected configuration of power sources can decrease the voltage range of the FC and SC, leading to reduced volume of each power source and enhanced system efficiency. The proposed system intended for 120kW-rated FCEVs is designed and evaluated under various load conditions, and the feasibility is verified through experimental results on a DSP-based prototype downscaled to a 12kW-rated system.
