Hydrogenation of -Pinene over Nickel Nanoparticles under Mild Condition Pressure
-Pinene is the primary compound ofturpentine oil. Itis widely utilized in fragrances, fine chemicals, flavors, and antibacterial applications. This compound exhibits relatively high chemical reactivity due to its unsaturated double bonds. Hydrogenation is a common method for saturating compounds, and nickel has demonstrated effective catalytic activity in this process. However, it often requires harsh reaction conditions, including high pressure. This research reports our synthesis of nickel nanoparticle for facilitate a lower pressure and temperature to hydrogenate -pinene. It was found that nickel nanoparticle synthesized has size in between 38-136 nm, and able to catalyse hydrogenation produce pinane in 17-63% yield. The pressure applied in between 2-4 atm, and temperature at 50 oC. This finding has brought a further investigation for more optimum conditions and a large scale of reaction study.
