Synthesis of a Phosphorus‐Based Polymer Antistatic Agent and the Impact on Polypropylene Properties
ABSTRACT Polypropylene (PP) is a typical insulating material. However, its high insulating characteristics pose an electrostatic hazard, limiting its potential applications to some extent. To address this issue, a phosphorus‐based polymer antistatic agent (HAH) was developed for the antistatic modification of PP in this study. The influence of varying molar ratios of raw materials on the performance of modified PP was systematically examined, alongside the impact of distinct HAH addition levels. The structure and properties of HAH‐modified PP were thoroughly characterized using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), a resistivity meter, and mechanical testing via an electronic universal material testing machine and simply supported beam impact testing machine. It was found that at a HAH addition level of 18 wt%, the surface resistivity of the PP/HAH material was reduced by nearly 4 orders of magnitude compared to pure PP. With the increase in HAH content, the water absorption and hydrophilicity of PP were enhanced. Notably, the antistatic material exhibited excellent durability and good resistance to water washing. Moreover, humidity changes had minimal impact on its antistatic properties.
