Integrating Language Instruction with an Internet-Based Platform of English Language Testing and Assessment

Language assessment literacy (LAL) is central to language learning and teaching. Since language teachers are primary agents of language instruction and typically assume multiple roles, an increasing number of studies have focused on investigating language teachers’ LAL development by centering on scale construction and validation. The lack of adequate LAL on the part of language teachers necessitates the development of technology-facilitated testing and assessment tools to aid language instruction in the classroom. In the Chinese context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education at the tertiary level, such a need is perceived to remain as pressing as ever. Given the status of college English as a foundational course open to all non-English-major college students in China's tertiary education, we developed this internet-based language testing and assessment platform with a view to integrating EFL instruction with testing and assessment, and ultimately improving the quality of learning outcomes.
