Relocation as a new category in psychological science
The article explores the psychological aspects of forced relocation caused by changes in the political and economic landscape, highlighting its relevance in contemporary conditions. It primarily focuses on analyzing the psychological consequences of relocation and the factors influencing individuals' successful adaptation in a new environment. Key aspects include individual personality traits, the degree of social support, and the role of family and companies in the adaptation process. The paper describes the main psychological difficulties faced by relocators, such as the loss of a familiar social environment, the necessity of forming new meanings, and the symbolic loss of former identity. Special attention is given to the significance of internal images of close figures, particularly relationships with parental figures and homeland, their interconnections, and their influence on the perception of new living conditions. The article reviews domestic and international research on the topic of relocation, highlighting contradictions, the irrelevance of some existing data in our time, and unexplored aspects of the lives and conditions of relocators. The article emphasizes the need for further research on people in relocation to understand the interaction of personal, family, and cultural factors in the adaptation of relocators, the impact of relocation on family relationships, kinship ties, and self-perception. This approach could contribute to the development of effective psychological support methods aimed at improving their psycho-emotional state and quality of life in new conditions.
