Impact of Digital Citizenship Project-Based Learning on Middle School Students’ Digital Citizenship and Internet Self-Efficacy
This study aimed to investigate the impact of digital citizenship project-based learning on middle school students' digital citizenship, its subareas, and internet self-efficacy.The study was conducted with 60 first-year students from B Middle School in the metropolitan area, excluding 12 responses that were judged incomplete.Over 12 sessions, a project-based learning program titled 'We are global citizens' was implemented as part of the Free Semester System using Edutech tools. The project-based learning program covered four main topics: Who am I?, animal abuse, poverty, and fair travel. Each topic consisted of 2 or 3 sessions, and the final session focused on reflective activities on the overall digital citizenship project-based learning experience.A pre-and post-test design was employed to assess changes before and after the project-based learning. The collected survey responses were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test, and the results were as follows.First, applying digital citizenship project-based learning significantly improved students' digital citizenship and all six subareas.Second, students' internet self-efficacy showed significant improvement after implemenitng the digital citizenship project-based learning.Based on these findings, implications for digital citizenship project-based learning are discussed, and suggestions for future research are provided.
