ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE USE OF SICK LEAVE IN POLAND (DETERMINANTS OF ABSENTEEISM AND PRESENTEEISM)

<ns3:p>Sickness absenteeism is the phenomenon of sick leave abuse and misuse. Presenteeism is the opposite phenomenon, not using sick leave despite being ill. The aim of this article is to diagnose employees' opinions and attitudes towards these phenomena in Poland. An attempt has been made to identify the most common manifestations of absenteeism and sickness presenteeism, and to determine whether they are mutually exclusive or (depending on the circumstances) co-occur. The source material comes from a survey conducted in 2022 using the CAWI method. Based on the results, it can be concluded that respondents are significantly more likely to declare that they abandon sick leave than abuse it. Furthermore, it appears that absenteeism often co-occurs with presenteeism, i.e. respondents abuse sick leave in some situations and abandon it in others despite being ill.</ns3:p>
