Advancing WiFi-based Imaging: An Approach for Real-Time Object Detection and Classification
Visualizing objects through Wi-Fi signal variations is a critical area of research due to its potential for real-time environmental mapping, enhanced detection capabilities, and use of extremely common electronics an infrastructure.Applications include mapping in low lighting/rf environments, search and rescue, and urban warfare where visualizing objects remotely provides an advantage. This study addresses the challenge of distinguishing object types and characteristics by integrating an object classification algorithm into a feed system connected to a sensor array. The system utilizes Wi-Fi signal fluctuations captured by an ESP32-based array to process data continuously, enabling dynamic updates and spatial visualization. These arrays can be orientated in different shapes and patterns that provide their own strengths unique for various situations.A machine learning approach is also employed to classify objects, leveraging signal patterns to infer their shape.Although primitive and in its relative infancy, by moving beyond simple detection, this method achieves greater accuracy and detail in object identification than traditional visualization in time constricted setup environments. The system's potential applications include security monitoring, navigation and mapping aids, and interactive educational tools.Key challenges addressed include real-time data processing, algorithmic optimization, and signal noise mitigation.Future research will focus on enhancing classification precision, improving computational efficiency, and adapting the sensor network to diverse environments and object types.
