Aristotelian Toys in the Parva Naturalia
While translating some of Aristotle’s treatises into Norwegian, I discovered that in the Parva Naturalia the philosopher made use of examples from games and play to elucidate bodily and mental activities. His usual method for doing this is the analogy. How can we explain these games and playthings, and is there a further connection to his theories in physics and astronomy? The connective link seems to be the Pythagorean philosopher Archytas from Tarentum.
