A Low-PAPR VLC System Based on Adaptively Biased Optical OFDM and Tone Injection
Adaptively biased optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ABO-OFDM), as a new type of optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (O-OFDM) transmission method, has the advantage of low receiver complexity, high subcarrier utilization and power utilization rate. However, ABO-OFDM signals have the drawback of high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In this paper, we propose a novel low PAPR ABO-OFDM (LP-ABO-OFDM) visible light communication system based on the idea of tone injection (TI) technique to achieve a better PAPR performance. The LP-ABO-OFDM method achieves a PAPR reduction of up to approximately 3.5 dB while addressing the issue of traditional TI strategies being inapplicable to ABO-OFDM. Simulation results have shown that the PAPR of the signal with the proposed LP-ABO-OFDM is significantly lower compared to traditional O-OFDM signals, and the BER under simulated nonlinear device distortion conditions is significantly lower than that of the traditional O-OFDM signal.
