Characterization of Confined Forward and Backward Surface Wave to Design Single-Feed Dual-Polarized Modulated Metasurface Antenna

This letter presents a novel characterization of confined forward and backward surface wave (SW) to design single fed dual polarized modulated metasurface antenna (MA). Surface impedance (Zsurf</i>) characteristics is numerically modeled and the distinct dual-polarization states for dual beam MAs are discussed with simulated and measured results by moving the source excitation at multiple location on the surface. Proposed MA structures are composed with 50 <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$ \times $</tex-math></inline-formula> 50 = 2500 scalar meta unit-cells by moving the source-feed in three distinct cartesian points, with an overall dimension of 14 <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">${\lambda _0}\ \times $</tex-math></inline-formula> 14<inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">${\lambda _0}$</tex-math></inline-formula>, operated at fr</i>0 = 28.5 GHz. Abstract

This letter presents a novel characterization of confined forward and backward surface wave (SW) to design single fed dual polarized modulated metasurface antenna (MA). Surface impedance (Zsurf</i>) characteristics is numerically modeled and the distinct dual-polarization states for dual beam MAs are discussed with simulated and measured results by moving the source excitation at multiple location on the surface. Proposed MA structures are composed with 50 <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$ \times $</tex-math></inline-formula> 50 = 2500 scalar meta unit-cells by moving the source-feed in three distinct cartesian points, with an overall dimension of 14 <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">${\lambda _0}\ \times $</tex-math></inline-formula> 14<inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">${\lambda _0}$</tex-math></inline-formula>, operated at fr</i>0 = 28.5 GHz.
