Left pontine infarction: a subtle pathology not to be missed.
Objective To highlight that pontine strokes can exhibit additional (posterior circulation) symptoms from typical stroke symptoms and are often undetectable on CT scans and CT angiograms, therefore complicating the diagnostic process. Methods The authors present the case of a 74-year-old African American male who suffered a left pontine infarction. Results A careful history and physical examination and MRI imaging play key roles in diagnosing a pontine stroke. Conclusion Pontine strokes can be subtle, thus a thorough approach to evaluation is imperative.
