Projections of the incidence of haematological cancers in Spain, 2024
Introduction: Hematological neoplasms are the fifth most common group of malignancies in Spain. Objective: To determine the new incident cases of the different subtypes of hematological malignancies in Spain for 2024, based on the population incidence observed in the provinces covered by the registries of the Spanish Network of Cancer Registries (REDECAN).Material and method: Data from hematological malignancies in REDECAN between 2007 and 2016 were included.Tumours were grouped according to current international guidelines.Crude and age-adjusted incidence rates were calculated.Poisson regression models were used to analyse incidence trends and determine projections for 2024.Results: In 2024 it is estimated that 28,657 cases will be diagnosed, 19,900 of lymphoid neoplasms, 8611 of myeloid neoplasms and 146 of histiocytosis; a total amount of 12,752 (44.6%) cases will be diagnosed in women.Projections from the population aged 0 to 14 years indicate that 487 cases will be diagnosed in 2024, 313 cases of leukaemia and 174 cases of lymphoma. Conclusions: The incidence of hematological neoplasms is increasing in Spain, especially in cases of mature B-cell neoplasms and myelodysplastic/ myeloproliferative neoplasms. In children aged 0 to 14 years, the trends are stable.
