Neutral s<i>p</i>2–s<i>p</i>3 Diboranes: Structures, Reactivities, and Applications in Organic Synthesis
Neutral s p 2 – s p 3 diboranes are characterized by a polarized BB single bond between two electronically and structurally distinct boryl groups, featuring one s p 2 ‐hybridized (three‐coordinate) boron center and one s p 3 ‐hybridized (four‐coordinate) boron center with a neutral Lewis base ligand. Their unique structures and properties have attracted growing research interest, particularly in exploring their reactivities and applications in CB bond formation reactions. This review summarizes recent advancements in the chemistry of neutral s p 2 –s p 3 diboranes, emphasizing their syntheses, structural features, reactivities, and emerging applications as diboron reagents in organic synthesis.
