Analysis of fluid therapy in pediatric patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever
Context: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is characterized by the main clinical manifestations of high fever and hemorrhagic phenomena, so fluid resuscitation is needed. Aims: To analyze the use of fluid therapy in pediatrics with DHF. Methods: The analysis was conducted descriptively using retrospective data retrieved from medical records of pediatric patients who used fluid therapy from January 2021 to December 2022 at Universitas Airlangga Hospital. Results: A total of 60 samples were included in this study, and the types of fluid therapy used in dengue fever (DF) were Ringer dextrose 5% (RD5, 15%), asering-5 (2%), dextrose 5% + NaCL 0.45% (D5½NS, 43%), and dextrose monohydrate sodium chloride ¼ NaCl (D5¼NS, 3%). Meanwhile, RD5 (15%), asering-5 (10%), D5½NS (10%), and D5¼NS (2%) were used in DHF with the highest number of administrations of 1500-2000 mL for 3-7 days. Conclusions: The patient's condition at the time of discharge was 100% improved, as shown by laboratory data, including decreased hematocrit, increased platelets, and normal hemoglobin.
