Investigation of the Efficiency of Using Different Types of Adhesives in the Production of Complex Textile Materials Based on Leather Industry Waste

This study aims to analyse and compare different types of adhesives to optimise the production processes of complex textile materials created from recycled leather industry waste. It covers the analysis of the chemical, mechanical, and thermal properties of adhesive compounds and their applicability in conditions requiring high-temperature resistance, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. The results of the study confirm that epoxy adhesives have high mechanical strength, reaching a tensile strength of up to 23.5 MPa. They also demonstrate high heat resistance and moisture resistance, which makes them ideal for applications where durability and reliability are required in high-humidity conditions. However, their relatively slow curing time limits their use in conditions requiring rapid collection or processing. Cyanoacrylate adhesives having a higher curing rate showed high tensile strength with values up to 20.5 MPa. Polyurethane adhesives have demonstrated good resistance to moisture and tensile strength up to 30 MPa. Their heat resistance up to 150°C emphasises their applicability in a variety of operating conditions. In contrast, epoxy and cyanoacrylate adhesives often contain hazardous components, contributing to higher toxicity and carbon footprint, and present challenges for end-of-life recyclability. The results of this study are of substantial importance for the production of complex textile materials based on waste from the leather industry, opening up new prospects for the application of adhesive technologies in sustainable production and reducing environmental impact in this industry.
