Impact on Redox Characteristics of Rotaxane via Structural Modifications
Abstract Mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) have been extensively explored throughout the last few decades. The synthesis of MIMs involves well‐thought‐out strategies that inspired the new era of budding practicing researchers around the globe. From molecular machines, shuttles, and lifts to motors, the current trend in research is toward the development of molecular devices that facilitate specific functions. In light of these, many MIMs showed remarkable redox properties and conditional translational motions. These ensembles' electrochemical properties are essential as they may shed new light on the possible development of devices in the future. This concise literature review synchronizes the redox properties of Rotaxanes. It compares the relative change in redox properties due to alteration in substitution that impacts these assemblies' thermodynamic and kinetic behavior.
