NOVEL ORO-DISPERSIBLE FILMS WITH COMBINED MOUTH FRESHENING AND ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES.

Novel oro-dispersible films with combined mouth freshening and antibacterial properties were developed using liquorice extract as the mouth freshening agent and antibacterial agents to combat bacterial growth. The introduction of these films aims to provide a convenient and effective way to maintain oral hygiene. The objective of this study was to design and evaluate the performance of these novel oro-dispersible films. Liquorice extract was obtained from the root of the liquorice plant through a process of extraction. The extract was then incorporated into the films along with antibacterial agents. The films were evaluated for their mouth freshening and antibacterial properties using various tests. The Franz diffusion test was used to determine the release of the mouth freshening agent from the films. The integration test was used to evaluate the antibacterial properties of the films. Organoleptic tests were also conducted to assess the taste, odor, and texture of the films. The antibacterial properties of the films were evaluated using Staphylococcus aureus as the test microorganism. The films were also characterized using FTIR spectroscopy to detect the functional groups present. The disintegration of the drug from the films was studied using UV analysis. TLC was used to identify the presence of liquorice extract in the films. The extraction of liquorice from the root was done using a solvent extraction method. The results showed that the novel oro-dispersible films exhibited excellent mouth freshening and antibacterial properties. The films disintegrated quickly in the mouth, releasing the mouth freshening agent and antibacterial agents. The antibacterial properties of the films were effective against Staphylococcus aureus. The FTIR spectra showed the presence of functional groups corresponding to the liquorice extract. The UV analysis showed that the drug disintegrated quickly from the films. The TLC results confirmed the presence of liquorice extract in the films. Overall, the novel oro-dispersible films with combined mouth freshening and antibacterial properties showed promising results and could be a potential oral hygiene product. The use of liquorice extract as the mouth freshening agent and antibacterial agents to combat bacterial growth makes these films an effective and convenient way to maintain oral hygiene.
