Joining the dots: A theory-based in-between sessions approach to keeping that connection
The development of a practice based join the dots activity tool, combining mindfulness and abstract art is described here. It is hoped that this will be a helpful adjunct to weekly therapy, empowering and resourcing clients to self-reflect in-between sessions using themes consistent with the therapy, in this case Schema Therapy. The suggestion that the guided creation of an abstract piece of art which is unique and reflects one’s own symbolism and meaning as a playful activity outside of therapy can be complementary to the therapeutic process is explored.
