Development and Validation of  Metacognitive Skills Assessment Tool: A Performance Based Test for Prospective Teachers

This study has been conducted under pragmatist paradigm for developing and validating Metacognitive Skills Assessment Tool. This Mixed Methods research has been conducted with Exploratory Sequential design (Qual emphasized). The tool has been developed in the light of literature review in primary Qualitative phase. Then after its validation, it has been pilot tested in the secondary quantitative phase for measuring its reliability. For this purpose, there were 60 prospective teachers selected randomly from a public sector university. The tool was administered to them. The participants reported no ambiguity while giving the data. Metacognitive Skills Assessment Tool (MSAT) was a performance test comprising 14 open-ended questions representing five Metacognitive skills (Planning; Information Management; Monitoring; Debugging and Evaluation). It consisted of 19 items initially which have been reduced to 14 in the light of the experts’ opinion. The results of reliability statistics show that the Cronbach’s Alpha values for MSAT was 0.77 which is also highly acceptable.
