Hypothyroidism in old age: features of diagnosis and prevention
Hypothyroidism is a clinical syndrome based on thyroid hormone deficiency. Primary hypothyroidism is a fairly common pathology, in which the incidence of the manifest form is about 1-2%, subclinical — about 7-10% among women and 2-3% among men. In the group of women over 50 years of age, the prevalence of hypothyroidism can exceed 14%, this problem mainly affects the fairer sex. This article presents the features of the course of hypothyroidism in elderly patients, examines the main causes of its occurrence, and presents the main aspects of diagnosis and treatment in elderly patients.
