HEMISSECÇÃO COMO ALTERNATIVA DE TRATAMENTO DE LESÃO DE FURCA EM MOLAR INFERIOR: Relato de caso
Hemisection is indicated for cases of grade II and III furcation lesions. It consists of separating the roots of multi-rooted teeth, which may be followed by the removal of one or more roots, together with their coronal portions of the respective dental element. This technique requires endodontic treatment prior to the surgical procedure. The objective of the study was to report a clinical case of hemisection as an alternative treatment for furcation lesions in a lower molar. This study had a qualitative approach with a descriptive/observational objective, carried out in the city of Mato Verde-MG at FAVENORTE. Approved by the Research Ethics Committee, with opinion number 7,486,332. A 44-year-old female patient arrived at the Favenorte clinic reporting that her tooth had broken. During the intraoral clinical examination, it was observed that in element 36 the patient had a metal core fused to the distal root exposed with a part of the resin sleeve and gingival resection. The radiographic examination showed a furcation lesion associated with a fracture in the interradicular region. The indicated treatment was root hemisection followed by rehabilitation with a fixed prosthesis. The reported case showed that hemisection may be a treatment option to be considered to rehabilitate molars previously considered non-restorable, also avoiding extractions of these teeth. It is an alternative that offers successful results.
