DANÇA E AUTOESTIMA: Uma análise quali-quantitativa com praticantes do sexo feminino

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between time of dance practice and self-esteem level in women. This is a cross-sectional study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 36 women, with a mean age of 27.7±10.6. An open-ended questionnaire and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used to collect data, through an online questionnaire. Spearman's correlation coefficient and content analysis were used in data analysis. Quantitative data analysis demonstrated a positive and significant correlation (r=0.455; p<0.01) between time of dance practice (in months) and the participants' level of self-esteem. Content analysis revealed three emerging aspects: (I) increased self-acceptance through a better relationship with the limits and potential of one's own body; (II) the development of self-confidence through the empowerment of participants; and (III) greater freedom of expression. These aspects were developed through dance practice and may impact participants' self-esteem. It is essential to highlight the need to promote the practice of dance in the most varied environments in society, since, in addition to the already known benefits, it seems to contribute to higher levels of self-esteem and, consequently, better mental health conditions, an aspect that is so important today.
