MORTALIDADE POR SUICÍDIO EM ADULTOS NO ESTADO DE SANTA CATARINA E MACRORREGIÕES: Tendência temporal 2011 a 2020

Santa Catarina is considered the second state with the highest suicide mortality rate in Brazil, with 11.0 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in 2019. This study aims to analyze the variation in suicide mortality rates among adults across Santa Catarina's macroregions from 2011 to 2020. An ecological study was conducted using data from the Mortality Information System (SIM) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Deaths of adults (20-59 years) attributed to suicide, based on ICD-10 codes X60-X84, Y10-Y19, and Y87, were included. To determine the annual percentage variation and identify significant trend changes, segmented linear regression was applied. In Santa Catarina’s macroregions, suicide mortality rates increased by 4.6% annually in the South, 3.8% in the North Plateau and Northeast, 3.0% in the Midwest and Serra, and 2.9% in Greater Florianópolis. In the Greater West, two distinct trends were observed: a decrease of 10.2% per year from 2011 to 2013, followed by an increase of 5.7% from 2013 to 2020. In the Foz do Rio Itajaí region, a 12.8% increase was recorded from 2017 to 2020. In Alto Vale do Itajaí, there was an increase of 10.4% per year from 2011 to 2016, followed by a 6.3% decrease from 2016 to 2020. Thus, most of Santa Catarina’s macroregions showed an overall increase in suicide mortality rates from 2011 to 2020, despite fluctuations in some regions during specific periods.
