Roman-Period Burial Caves on the Slopes of Mount Carmel: An Anthropological Study
A concentration of burial caves dated to the Roman period was found and excavated at orbat Mitla, on the western slopes of Mount Carmel.Anthropological remains included poorly-preserved skeletal fragments that were studied on-site.At least 65 individuals were identified in 13 caves, including infants, children and adults of both sexes, typical of a regular, 'civilian' cemetery population.
