Vessel-Covered Mamluk-Period Tombs on the Israeli Coastal Plain, in Light of the Excavation on Danny Mass Street, Ramla
The salvage excavation conducted on Danny Mass Street, Ramla, exposed several stonelined tombs, some of which were covered by large ceramic vessels-a particular feature of Mamluk-period cemeteries previously documented in the coastal plain. This burial type probably points to the foreign origin of the interred, possibly a Turkman population that settled along the Israeli coast in the Mamluk period. This tomb type is discussed below in light of similar burials uncovered in a limited geographic area, between Naal Yarqon in the north and Naal Soreq in the south.
