From the experience of operational and combat activities of the NKVD bodies and troops in the fight against bandit nationalist formations in the Lithuanian SSR in 1944

The article reconstructs the historical experience of the activities and management decisions of the structural units of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs to combat bandit nationalist formations and groups in 1944. The subjects of this irreconcilable struggle on the part of the department were: NKVD anti-banditry units, republican and local NKVD bodies, police, NKVD troops, NKVD fighter battalions. They worked closely with the NKGB and the army units involved in this struggle. The authors noted that Lithuania had the most tense situation among all three Baltic republics. Attention is focused on the fact that in 1944, after the liberation of the republic from the Nazi invaders, bandit nationalist formations and groups operated with large forces before the defeat. After that, they were forced to change tactics and in 1945 to carry out their bandit raids in small groups.
