Integrated Polarization-Sensitive Amplification System for Multimode Polarization Imaging

Anisotropic 2D materials hold significant research implications for the advancement of high-performance polarization imaging systems. However, most studies are predominantly confined to transmission-type polarization imaging due to the low polarization dichroism of materials. In this study, we constructed a communication band polarization-sensitive amplification system (PSAS) by connecting a black phosphorus photodetector with a MoS2 field-effect transistor, which can increase the polarization sensitivity from 2.9 to 9.7. Leveraging this characteristic, we conducted research in information transmission and polarization imaging applications. In the field of information transmission, a multiplexed optical communication scheme utilizing light intensity and polarization states as independent transmission channels was proposed. Compared with the traditional single-channel communication systems, our design can not only realize error detection but also increase the signal transmission efficiency by 200%. In terms of polarization imaging, we achieved the transmission-type mode, reflection mode of plane objects, and reflection mode of three-dimensional cylindrical object polarization imaging through the PSAS, respectively. Contrasted with unpolarized images (S0, S1, and S2), linear polarization imaging (DoLP) can obtain a more complete contour information and enhance the image contrast at the edges. These results provide a universally and compatible applicable strategy to amplifying the polarization properties, paving the way for expanding more applications of polarization imaging.
