Simplifying Project Management Through Standardization and Replication
Effective project management is key to the success or failure of major projects across various industries. The same holds true in the Oil and Gas industry, due mainly to the complex and dynamic processes involved. Project management applies structured methodologies and leverages appropriate tools to ensure that specific projects are completed successfully, on time and within budget. Using an onshore gas wells project as a case study, the paper demonstrates how standardization and replication can simplify complex projects, saving both cost and time. The methodology includes identifying replication opportunities, conducting risk assessments and assurance with technical authorities, and formalizing processes through sign-off and publication for use. Standard archetypes are then established for various business units globally, ensuring future designs comply with these agreed archetypes. The findings provide valuable insights into optimizing project management practices through disciplined standardization and replication.
