Deepwater Automated Drilling Control Implementation

Automatic drilling, also known as Automated Drilling Control System (ADCS), or abbreviated, ADC, represents a significant advancement in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the context of drilling operations. This recent approach employs new technology to automate different processes involved in the drilling of oil and gas wells, bringing safety and greater efficiency. The demand for energy continues to rise globally, at the same time the industry seeks to enhance safety while minimizing environmental impact and operational costs. The performance improvements rate over the years on deepwater offshore scenarios has reduced. In this scenario, it is necessary to investigate new forms to construct and maintain a well for further gains on safety and performance. The implementation of new technologies within a fleet of multiple drilling rigs is complex. The integration of automated systems must consider a variety of factors, including technical specifications, economic viability, manufactures capacity, personnel training, strategic alignment with governmental agencies and production demands. The complexity of the challenges requires a broad approach that encompasses not only the technical capabilities of the automation systems but also the organizational and operational adjustments needed enable the success of the implementation.
