Green Recycling of the Fluminense FPSO: Safe and Sustainable Decommissioning
Abstract This paper delves into the dismantling and recycling of the Fluminense, an aged Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. The decommissioning project was guided by the principle: "Safely and responsibly conclude the legacy of the BJSA field and Fluminense FPSO while protecting Company´s value and reputation." Company´s Environmental framework emphasizes: "Protecting the environment, reducing waste, and making a positive contribution to biodiversity." A key focus area is Circular Economy and Waste, aiming to use resources efficiently and increase reuse and recycling within our operations and supply chains. To realize this vision, Company meticulously selected the FPSO's final destination, ensuring the chosen yard met stringent safety, responsibility, and sustainability criteria. The tender process included technical criteria such as recycling methods, dismantling techniques, technical limitations, and HSSE performance. Additionally, the selected recycling facility had to be on the European List of ship recycling facilities, ensuring compliance with rigorous safety and environmental standards. This paper outlines the objectives and challenges of implementing "Green Recycling" from start to finish, detailing how shipping recycle yard achieves this within their facility and their execution plans. It also presents the specific recycling plan for the FPSO Fluminense, highlighting the steps taken to ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards throughout the dismantling and recycling process.
