Evaluating Low Carbon Power Options for Offshore Assets: A Case Study
Abstract This paper describes the results of a conceptual evaluation for a case study developed to analyze low carbon power supply options for an offshore O&G installation, representing significant Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction potential for the asset. Taking the asset expected production profile as a starting point, a simplified process plant modelling is employed, leading to the energy demand over the asset life cycle, as well as the GHG emissions profile considering traditional open cycle gas turbines power generation. Over this base case, several options of low carbon power supply were considered, including power from shore, post combustion carbon capture and integration with offshore wind power. The most promising options were analyzed in terms of marginal abatement costs and Technological Readiness Level (TRL), that will drive future decisions aligned with the short-term decarbonization targets and long-term net zero operations goal.
