Unmanned Offshore Platforms in the Gulf of Mexico with Ai, IOT Scada Reduces Cost and Increase Productivity
Abstract The advent of unmanned offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) signifies a transformative leap in the oil and gas sector, driven by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) systems for advanced automation of engineering optimization techniques and operational cost optimization through remote operations. These platforms leverage AI to enable real-time monitoring and predictive performance, significantly reducing the need for human presence and enhancing operational efficiency. IoT sensors play a critical role by continuously collecting data from various equipment, which is then processed by AI algorithms to optimize platform performance. IoT SCADA systems further facilitate this by providing a centralized platform for remote control and data acquisition, ensuring seamless communication between different components of the platform with mobile access for proactive alarm-based surveillance. A key application of AI in these platforms is gas lift optimization, where AI algorithms dynamically adjust gas injection rates to maximize production efficiency and minimize energy consumption. This not only enhances hydrocarbon recovery but also reduces operational costs and environmental impact. Algorithms process data collected from IoT sensors in real time to automate the calculation and adjustment of IPR and VLP models, which are critical for optimizing well performance. By analyzing real-time data such as pressure, temperature, flow rates, AI can dynamically adjust operating parameters to ensure optimal production, leading to improved hydrocarbon recovery and reduced operational costs. This automation also enables proactive management of reservoir and wellbore conditions, minimizing the risks of production inefficiencies and equipment failures. Furthermore, AI-driven equipment rotation schedules are implemented to manage wear and tear, extending the lifespan of critical assets and minimizing unplanned downtime.
