ANÁLISE DO PERFIL EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DA INCIDÊNCIA DE MENINGITE EM CRIANÇAS DE 0 A 14 ANOS, NA REGIAO NORTE NO PERIODO DE 2014 A 2024
This study analyzed the epidemiological profile of meningitis in Northern Brazil, focusing on Pará state, investigating regional disparities in health indicators and specific challenges of the Amazon region. The methodology included epidemiological data analysis from 2014-2024 and systematic review of current scientific literature. Results showed an incidence rate of 5.78 confirmed cases per year and an average lethality of 13.46%, with lethality rate peaks reaching 18.5% and 14.8%, respectively in Pará, higher than the national average of 5.43%. A predominance of bacterial over viral cases was identified in the Northern region, contrasting with the national pattern, along with a significant correlation between poor sanitary conditions and higher disease incidence. Despite the implementation of new diagnostic technologies through integrated epidemiological surveillance programs, which demonstrated effectiveness in reducing lethality rates in certain locations, significant challenges persist, including underreporting in remote areas and insufficient vaccination coverage in various municipalities in the northern region of the country. It is concluded that effective control of meningitis in the region requires an integrated and adaptive approach, considering local specificities and social-environmental health determinants.
