Effect of Ultrasound-Enhanced Hyaluronic Acid on Venous Ulcer Healing
Background: Venous ulcers are chronic open skin lesions resulting from venous hypertension. When conservative treatments fail, alternative approaches are necessary. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-enhanced hyaluronic acid delivery (phonophoresis) for venous ulcer healing. Materials and methods: Sixty-four venous ulcer patients participated in this randomized clinical trial. Participants were equally divided into two groups. Group A received a combination of topical hyaluronic acid gel and ultrasound therapy, while Group B received ultrasound followed by topical hyaluronic acid. Wound surface area was measured before and after four weeks of treatment. Results: Group A showed a highly significant reduction in wound surface area (51.15%) compared to Group B (31.02%) (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The study concluded that the combination of hyaluronic acid and ultrasound therapy via phonophoresis is more effective in venous ulcer healing than sequential treatment. This method provides a promising adjunct to traditional therapies for venous ulcer management.
