Nanocarbon/Aramid Fiber 3D Porous Current Collector Enhanced Electrochemical Performance in Lithium Sulfur Batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) have garnered global attention in the field of electrochemistry due to their favorable properties, including a high theoretical specific capacity (1675[Formula: see text]mAh/g) and the ability to maintain stable cycling during charging and discharging. However, LSBs produce polysulfides during cycling that degrade the electrochemical performance of the cell. In this study, a novel three-dimensional (3D) porous current collector was designed using nanocarbon/aramid fibers to efficiently capture soluble polysulfides and enhance the conductivity of the sulfur (S) cathode. The electrochemical test results show that the 3D current collector LSBs have an excellent specific capacity of 1343 mAh/g for the initial discharge at 0.05[Formula: see text]C, and the cell capacity retention is 82% after 200 cycles at 1[Formula: see text]C. Therefore, a 3D current collector can be a straightforward and valid method to enhance the electrochemical performance of LSBs.
