INTERVENÇÃO COM TOXINA BOTULÍNICA VERSUS OUTRAS TERAPIAS NO CONTROLE ÁLGICO DA ENXAQUECA CRÔNICA: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA COM METANÁLISE

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) in reducing pain frequency in adults with primary Chronic Migraine (CM). A systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials was performed using the PubMed via Medline, Cochrane Library, Lilacs via BVS, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar and Clinical Trials databases. A total of 867 references were found, and after screening, 11 articles that fit the criteria were selected. Of these, 4 were used for meta-analysis, all with placebo as the comparator group. The results regarding the outcomes of frequency of migraine days, migraine episodes and headache episodes were statistically insignificant. Regarding the outcome of frequency of headache days, individuals who used BTX-A had a reduction of -1.51 headache days. Also, for the impact of pain, classified through the Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) scale, a reduction of -2.24 points in the score was observed for the experimental group, indicating the efficacy of the treatment. BTX-A compared to placebo therapy was considered effective in the treatment of headache and impact of pain in patients with CE.
