Perovskite Single Crystals for Detection of High‐Energy Ionizing Radiations

Metal halide perovskite (MHP) semiconductors have recently garnered considerable attention, owing to their promising potential in detecting high‐energy ionizing radiation (HEIR). This burgeoning interest arises from the superior optoelectronic characteristics of MHPs compared to traditional materials. Their exceptional capacity to transform ionizing radiation into measurable signals positions makes them leading candidates in advanced radiation detection systems. While significant strides have been made, the application of MHPs in HEIR detection remains relatively underexplored. Given the high penetration power of HEIR, there is a pronounced need for materials that exhibit optimal absorption and efficient energy transduction, attributes that MHPs could uniquely fulfill. Nevertheless, further targeted research is essential to comprehensively assess their functional potential within this scope. The advantageous properties of MHP‐based detectors hold transformative potential for the field, offering promising, cost‐effective, and scalable solutions across sectors, including medical imaging, nuclear safety, and aerospace technology. This publication delves into these properties and architectural variations of MHPs, offering insights into potential pathways for achieving next‐generation high‐resolution HEIR detectors.
